Pump.fun has announced changes to its creator fee model as activity on the Solana-based memecoin launchpad rebounds to its highest daily level in months. The platform said the existing fee structure, introduced last year, succeeded in attracting organized project teams and boosting onchain activity but did little to influence behavior among typical memecoin creators. According to the company, the previous setup shifted too much risk away from traders while encouraging low-risk token deployment rather than active trading. The reassessment comes as token creation on the platform surged, with nearly 30,000 new tokens launched in a single day, marking the strongest showing since September. The spike suggests renewed speculative interest even as the broader memecoin frenzy shows signs of fatigue.
The update was outlined by Alon Cohen, who said creator fees under the earlier Dynamic Fees framework were misaligned with the platform’s long-term market health. He emphasized that traders remain central to Pump.fun’s ecosystem and that incentives should reflect market demand rather than automatically reward deployers. The revised system introduces creator fee sharing, allowing teams to split fees across multiple wallets, transfer ownership, and revoke update authority after launch. Creators and administrators can also assign specific fee percentages post-launch, adding flexibility and control. The changes are positioned as the first step in a broader effort to rebalance incentives as the platform heads into the new year.
Pump.fun, which operates on the Solana ecosystem, said future updates will take a more market-driven approach. Under this direction, traders rather than deployers would ultimately determine whether a token’s narrative justifies the presence of creator fees at all. The platform’s leadership indicated that additional adjustments are planned as it evaluates how fee structures impact trading behavior and liquidity. The rebound in token launches highlights how quickly speculative activity can return when conditions align, even as platforms seek to impose more sustainable incentive models. The overhaul reflects a broader shift among onchain marketplaces toward prioritizing trader engagement and market dynamics over rapid token proliferation.
